Josh and his dog Kazumi crash back in time to face a fearsome girl and her acrobatic sister. While they size each other up an eerie wail circles the bush around them. Josh can't work out what is going on.

With danger averted, Josh plays along with Kura, Rangi and Toro and decides to help them look for the stolen godstick. Then Kazumi disappears, her howls of pain echoing in the distance.

Tired of this weird game, Josh decides it's time to go home but is soon running for his life from creatures emerging from a strange bone-lined fort.

After escaping the slimy, scale-covered ponaturi, Josh, Kazumi, Rangi, Kura, and Toro decide to search the creatures' village for the godstick.

When an old ponaturi warrior outsmarts the group and escapes, Rangi blames herself and dives into the dangerous waters to follow it to its underwater lair.

Still trying to make up for her mistake, Rangi calls on mysterious friends in the mist to help them trick the ponaturi and get the godstick back. The plan goes well until the long forgotten taniwha turns up.

Kura is furious that they have lost the godstick again and tries her best to stop her sister and Josh from making a deal with Hikuroa. However, the quest of the taniwha could be just too tempting…

After crashing down into a valley of lava streams, Kura is determined to find a way back up the cliff and get their godstick back from the meddling taniwha.

After a narrow escape, Kura realises she has no choice and sets off to find a way through the treacherous lava streams towards the misty maunga. The quest has begun, but something has Kazumi on high alert and Kura senses it too.

After a deep sleep, Kura and Josh wake up to find Rangi gone. Fearing the worst, they begin to search for clues.

While Kura, Josh and Kazumi follow a trail of maero footprints, Rangi is playing games with rangatira o patupaiarehe on top of the misty maunga.
